May 03, 2008Acoustic Emission (AE) technology applied to condition monitoring is gaining acceptance as a useful complimentary tool. This article demonstrates the use of traditional AE parameters, the Enegry Index and KolmogorovSmirnov test (KS-test) to detect, locate, and monitor natural defect initiation and propagation in a conventional rolling element thrust bearing.
The MFC Sensors A, B and C are placed as an equilateral triangle (see Figure5). D is the locationof the emission source by the breaking, D (D is known in this experiment). Figure 5. Location of Vertices A, B and C and the, defect D. The nearest Sensor C is the rst to be excited due to the wave front coming from the acousticemission (Figure6).Cited by 16Publish Year 2008Author Mohamed Elforjani, DavidAcoustic Emission Application for Monitoring Bearing Some researchers have studied AE based on the types of defects, locations, and various bearing operation condition. Smith and Fadden [5,6] identified the acoustic emission signals to detect defects in the form of a fine scratch on the inner race of axially loaded angular contact ball bearing at low speed only.
